The search continues for a suitable town or village, somewhere in the world, to become ‘twinned’ with Portglenone.
Coleraine is already paired with the historic French town of La Roche-Sur-Yon and Ballymoney has thrown its lot in with Vanves, but as yet, civic leaders in Portglenone have not settled on an appropriate match.
Sadly the village has already had rejections from the Sangin district of Helmand Province in Afghanistan, Bourj el-Barajneh Refugee Camp in The Lebanon and the Barrio Santa Fe on the outskirts of Bogota, Columbia.
Negotiations were thought to be at an advanced stage with the Basque municipality of Elorrio but agreement was thwarted during a fact finding trip to area when a member of the Portglenone delegation mistranslated ‘bullfighting’ as ‘bullshitting’ and then took a violent objection to the Latin Mayor’s traditional greeting of a double kiss.
Apparently the consideration list has been reduced to just three options; The American towns of ‘Intercourse’ and ‘Mianus’ and the current hot favourite, Clady.
