Of the four villages which straddle The Lower River Bann between Lough Neagh and the sea, Portglenone is one of only three of them whose name includes the vowels ‘o’ and ‘e’.

More remarkable still, the village contains both letters twice which is unique among the four unless one includes the suffix, ‘bridge’ when referring to Toome.

Ballymouldaine actually contains all five vowels but it does not qualify for inclusion here as it is neither located on The River Bann, nor indeed does it actually exist.
