In soccer, Portglenone FC was once promoted to the illustrious ‘Harp Lager and Embassy Regal King-size Division 2.

The name of this league was often abbreviated to ‘Thon league that’s the last one they read the scores from at the tail-end of thon results programme that the BBC goes to just as Grandstand are about to show you the English tables’.

Portglenone left the league after just one season in a row over goal-line technology. The problem was that their opponents consistently put the ball over Portglenone’s goal-line a minimum of 11 times in every game.
