You are probably already aware that ‘Options’ hair salon on Main Street in Portglenone recently celebrated 30 years in business.

You may not however realise how the popular hairdressers got its name!

Back in 1983, the plan was for the business to be called ‘Short & Curlies’  but when the proprietor was offered a good deal on the incorrectly spelled sign from the new opticians across the street, she jumped at the chance and Options was born.

Ironically for a salon called Options, customers are obliged to hum The Intermezzo from Cavelleria Rusticana for the entire duration of their treatments or run the risk of being shivved with the pointy end of a steel comb.
