Long before the erection of the bridge in Portglenone, the area was already known as the site of the best ford on The River Bann.

After construction of the bridge, the village simply became known as the site for mediocre Vauxhalls.

The new bridge which was built in less than an hour, was once a swing bridge but in the 1970s, the swings were moved to the local play-park and the space was filled with bridge bits.
